Dr. A Shanmugasundaram, a visionary educationist, founded Vinayaka Mission’s in 1981. Vinayaka Mission arose from a commitment to providing Salem with top-tier educational institutions. With a steadfast focus on excellence, VMRF has flourished into a respected university encompassing esteemed colleges in Medicine, Engineering, Physiotherapy, Homeopathy, Nursing, Science, and Liberal Arts.

Vinayaka Mission takes immense pride in being recognized as a “Deemed to be University” in 2001 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Vinayaka Missions subsequently transformed into Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation (VMRF), becoming India’s 48th University.

Our university fosters a nurturing environment that empowers nearly 15,000 students to achieve excellence in their chosen fields of specialization across our various constituent colleges.  A dedicated faculty and staff of nearly 5,000, including renowned professors, technical experts, and support personnel, serve our student community with unwavering commitment. Their expertise ensures a rewarding and enriching educational experience for all.

VMRF stands apart as the only institution of its kind in India to house three medical colleges, one dental college, and two engineering colleges, alongside Nursing and Homeopathy colleges. Salem

Salem, one of Tamil Nadu’s largest cities, is surrounded by hills and offers scenic natural beauty. Known for its Textile Industries and Steel Plant (Salem Steel is a trusted brand across India), the city also boasts vibrant art and cultural scene. Salem played a significant role in the early days of the Tamil film industry. Yercaud, one of the famous hill stations of South India, is less than an hour’s drive from Salem. Connected well by air, road and rail, Salem is fast becoming an educational hub of its own.
